OSHA 1910.303 (g)(2)(I) The Guarding of Live Part - Except as required or permitted elsewhere in the subpart, live parts of electrical equipment operating at 50 volts or more shall be guarded against accidental contact. The welding electrode & electrode holder are Live Parts.

OSHA 1910.305 (j)(4)(iv) - The protection of live parts - all voltages

OSHA 1910.254 (b)(1) - General Assurance of the consideration of safety is obtainable by choosing apparatus complying with the requirements for Electric Arc-Welding Apparatus, NEMA EW-1-1962 National Manufactures Association or Safety Standards for Transformer-Type Arc-Welding Machines, ANSIC33.2-1956 Underwriters Laboratories both of which are incorporated by reference as specified in sec. 1910.6

 

Other Regulations & Standards

OSHA 1910.254 (b)(3) - Arc-Welding Machines open circuit voltage limits shall not exceed for manual welding 80 volts

OSHA General Duty Clause 5.(a) - Each employer (1) shall furnish to each of his or her employees place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his or her employees.

NEMA EW-1-1962 - Arc-Welding Machines Open Circuit Volts shall not be more than 80 volts for a manual product.

UL 551 27.1 - Arc-Welding Machines Open Circuit Volts shall not be more than 80 volts for a manual product
